Booting HP pavilion dv2000 laptop

I have access to an HP pavilion dv2000 laptop. It is AMD Turion (64-bit)
with mostly NVIDIA accessories. It has Linux Mint 17.3 on the local disk
which works quite well (and doesn't use 'systemd'--yay!).

This being the first machine I encountered with NVIDIA video, I was curious
about how well NetBSD-current (7.99.41) would work on it.

The answer is: not very well at all.

Booting GENERIC hangs when attaching "acpi0".

Booting GENERIC with "-2" to disable ACPI hangs while probing built-in
IDE/ATA/SATA devices (cd0 and wd0). Touching the POWER button briefly
allows it to continue. The kernel then panics complaining about
"cnopen: no console".

Booting GENERIC with "-2c" to disable ACPI and drop into userconf
permits disabling the "nouveau*" driver after which the process continues
as above (hangs probing cd0 and wd0 until power button is pressed).
Booting then completes.

To be more specific, when the kernel hangs probing "cd0" pressing any
key on the keyboard will allow it to continue. When it then hangs while
probing "wd0" only touching the power button will unwedge it. If one
touches the power button when it hangs probing "cd0", it will not hang
when probing "wd0" and complete booting.

Below is "dmesg.boot" following booting GENERIC with "-2c", disabling
"nouveau*" and coaxing it through the IDE device probes with the power
button:
