I tried the precompiled binaries (I couldn't make a distribution with patches 
applied.)

Just writing to say it worked great.  I have an 855GM chipset that doesn't seem 
to be supported by i915drm and with DRM/GEM I have X Video again.

I hope this is the way drm support goes in future.

Will this be a part of current soon? Will it make 6.0?
