Do you see any traffic on the AP though?
With all 4.99.x versions my rt2500 fails. It can associate with the AP just 
fine and send data which is seen on the server, like say a DHCP request over 
UDP. The data is sent back to the client, but the card doesn't see it via 
tcpdump.
