Maybe a ulimit(3) is reached?
I had similar problems when e.g. compiling bloatware on sparc64.
Set ulimit -m and -d to max and try to run postfix again.

Wietse Venema would be horrified to see postfix described as "bloatware" - that's one of the things he tried hard to optimize, particularly in contrast to sendmail. I'd bet quite a bit that there's something else going on here which is causing postfix to ask for 0xb6891000000 bytes of RAM.

Wietse Venema never tried running postfix on a slow machine, I suspect. It takes ages to even start servicing the machine, compared to sendmail.
Definitely bloat in that way atleast.
