PCC vs GCC on old CPU
Hi folks,
my old office PC machine (P III/Centrino 1 GHz CPU) carries on its life
as {mail, nfs, samba, dns, ftp} server for the small society I work for.
No worry, it is more often at 0.05 load than 3.0.
Since compiling with GCC on this plateform is a bit slow, I was thinking
to switch to PCC. So, before doing this, I have a few questions:
1. How faster is PCC over GCC for compiling "typical" apps?
2. How slower are the applications compiled with PCC relatively to those
compiled with GCC and the proper optimizations (-march, -msse...).
3. Finally, how to build the system with PCC rather than GCC? What
variable to change?
Thanks!
Vincent
