Doesn't that produce unnecessary differences for a ton of files? If
the builddir was cleared previously, that is. I mean, we have things
which reexecute configure all the time and possibly adds build IDs.

I think kernel changes should be separated anyway. Too many
architectures have GENERIC and GENERIC.MP.
