I think this is due to them including
.include "../../meta-pkgs/modular-xorg/avoid-duplicate.mk"
which makes them "fail" if you use native X.

This actually does set PKG_SKIP_REASON, so are you asking if
"prefailed" and "skipped" mean the same thing?
