Thanks for the mail. I needed a while to understand that this was a
heads-up and not a request for a code review though. One remark:

We typically try to avoid pulling up this sort of infrastructure
changes. It will cause changes in many packages without their versions
being bumped. That alone makes it unsuitable for a pull-up. In three
months time, this change will appear in the stable branch anyway :)
