Essentially by keeping GNOME 2, we don't need to bite the systemd / logind
bullet, which is essentially what is keeping GNOME 3 behind. MATE will
use the new GNOME 3 pieces too, so it seems we need to consider

It seems this is beginning of the way to full GNOME 3 + MATE...
