How do other packages handle this?

It seems to be the usual trade-off between being consistent across packages 
inside pkgsrc and being consistent across CUPS packages.
Regular CUPS users might wonder how to enable debug-printfs on pkgsrc.
Is there a way to have a generic description of what you suggest to be called 
"debug-verbose" plus a print/cups-specific description that debug-verbose 
enables CUPS' debug-printfs option?
