Re: SparcStation 4 serial console

Hi rodent,

Is it possible that (a) you have no monitor connected to any of the
systems' video outputs and (b) the SS4 has a framebuffer present and
keyboard connected and the 10 and 20 are lacking either the framebuffer
or the keyboard? That could account for the '4 defaulting to video
console with the '10 and '20 defaulting to serial console.

Or perhaps that the '10 and '20 have input-device and output-device set
differently from the '4?

The system boots and I can telnet into it!
What does eeprom(8) print for input-device and output-device on the '4,
as compared to the '10 and '20? If you'd rather not bother booting
them, what do `printenv input-device' and `printenv output-device' at
the OBP ok prompt produce?

the SS4 and SS20 both have on-board video, the SS10 has a card in it.
All 3 have no video, no keyboard connected.
Shouldn't serial console be fall-back when no keyboard is detected?

On my SS20 I see:
output-device=screen
input-device=keyboard

I have the same on my SS4. I tried setting input and output  device both to ttya, but no avail. I end up with a black screen if I attach a monitor... so the parameters do something, but not what I expect.. seems like serial is somehow dead/different. Luckily I still have the 113W3 cable, even if the LCD Monitor doesn't properly sync the size like the old CRTs, so the last line is missing... but enough to test and boot.
