On my own systems I use whatever comes "by default", i.e. what I
get from extracting kern-GENERIC.tgz.  I beleive that means an
uncompressed kernel.  And I'm pretty sure my colleague did the
same.

Hm...  Should we then change how we package stuff, so that
extracting kern-GENERIC.tgz leaves a netbsd.gz?  We'd then have
to modify the release notes accordingly...  Or ... be cheesy and
make the file extract to "netbsd" but it still being a gzipp'ed
file?
