Promise SATA controllers

I was just looking at acquiring a SATA controller for an ailing (PCI only)
i386 box. Do you have any recommendations? A quick look at the usual supplier
suggests a promise sata 300 tx2+. It seems that that has a PDC40775 chipset
which is not one of the ones pdcsata(4) attaches to. Any thoughts on how
difficult it might be to have pdcsata support it / whether it is worth
getting at all?
