Your i386 kernel doesn't seem to work on a ThinkPad X40 (dmesg output
after is attached): the screen stays dark, and I can't (blindly) reboot
the system.

Using regular GENERIC (4.99.50) and machdep.acpi_vbios_reset=1, suspend
and resume seems to work fine (after disabling pcppi(4)).
