Re: Raspberry Pi 4 unstable when run from USB stick

How are these powered though? I know SSDs are fairly power-hungry. I
added one to my Pinebook Pro, and it essentially overloaded the power
circuits, so I removed it again.

I am thinking of buying an SSD enclosure for the disk I have, but all
of the ones I see have a single USB-C connector. It seems unlikely to
me that the RPi can deliver enough power to that SSD though. In the
old times, enclosures came with a separate power adapter, is there a
way to provide power some other way these days?

I use Y adapter cables to provide extra power. They backfeed power, which can be helpful sometimes, as long as both the SSD / hard drive and the Pi are fed from the same USB power source. Something like this may be good for you:

Note that this particular cable probably doesn't work with devices that negotiate power over USB-C, but for most disks, this shouldn't be an issue.
