Sorry, I did not understood this was a question for me. 

How to tell the difference? We are told there is a tarball containing .o
files. The one I used in my changeset did not contain any, but it 
does not seems to be online anymore (size mismatch). I tried 
https://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/screen/screen-5.0.1.tar.gz

It does not contain .o files either. This is a mess.
