general breakage on -current

My original post about e.g. curl breakage hasn't appeared on the list after
a good half hour. It turns out that it is due to the make :Q $ issue, and
reverting

  cvs rdiff -u -r1.218 -r1.219 src/usr.bin/make/var.c

allows me to build pkgsrc again on NetBSD-current.
