The slide deck is terrible.
From a legal point of view, there needs to be a mechanism that lets
you "rewrite history". Like it or not, from time to time, stuff needs
to get expunged. Both SVN and GIT and I'm sure any other VCS will let
you do this. If all else fails, you unpack and then rebuild the
entire repository.
Secondary to this is that git, by default, will let you push some
pretty arbitrary changes. Just turn the option off in the server's
configuration file. Why would a slide deck, dated 2013, fail to
mention this?
