$ ps auxww |grep gnome-settings-daemon

/usr/pkg/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon

Its a per-user process, so it should run from your .xsession
or .xinitrc. If your running the gnome desktop, it should be started
automatically. I run KDE, so I have a shell script in ~/.kde/env/ which
starts it when I login under KDE.
