Which command was invoked, `make install', `make replace', or something
 else? Was ncurses installed?

If ncurses was/is installed, can you please share:

  /var/db/pkg/ncurses-6.1nb5/+CONTENTS

somewhere? In particular, I think it would be worth to check if
there are duplicated entries (but with different case) there.

Apart that but - WARNING: THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS! (if it doesn't
go well all installed packages that depends on ncurses will be
broken) - it would be also interesting to:

  - `pkg_delete -f ncurses'
  - remove any left-over files of ncurses
  - `make install' ncurses again
