   I am seeing the same error in configure on NetBSD-4/i386  using pkgsrc 
 as of July 16, 2010 or so, with the XFree86 version of X, but I got 
 Xfixes to configure, build, and install by adding the line

 PREFER_PKGSRC=    xextproto

 to my /etc/mk.conf.  When reading the pkgsrc guide, PREFER_PKGSRC is 
 supposed to be the default, so I don't understand why I had to 
 explicitly add it for xextproto. Perhaps a bug in the x11 buildlink3 files?
