 Yes, and no ...    The particular problem reported was fixed,
 but that just exposed another (looks to be harder) one ... one
 of the processes that is run as part of the build hangs (pauses,
 as in pause(2)) and simply sits there forever (99 hours one time
 before I noticed and killed it) - no signal I have thought to try
 gets it out of the pause without aborting (normally a process that
 is paused is expecting some signal to extricate it).
 
 I haven't had time to look into exactly what is happening or why,
 or I would have added something to this PR already.
 
 If you prefer, you can close it, and I'll just submit another one
 when I get a chance to work out what's happening - or you can just
 leave this one open (the subject of the PR remains true...)
