 If you check the corresponding .rc files in ~/.config/xfce4/panel/ for
 the launchers with no icon, do they have an "Icon" property? If not, do
 they have an "X-XFCE-IconCategory"?
 
 Abuot the "show desktop" plugin, which you mentioned in your bugzilla
 report, it seems normal to not have a .rc file for it. But you do have a
 share/xfce4/panel-plugins/showdesktop.desktop, right? If so, when you
 click the icon in the properties of one of your launchers, is there a
 gnome-fs-desktop icon in the "Location Icons" category?
 
 PS. The bug mentioned in the follow-up to your bugreport in bugzilla
 should be fixed by a patch in xfce4-panel, that's why I asked about it
 too (in one of my first replies).
