Most simple filesystem with content checksums?
Dear mailing list,
Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place:
I've been pondering to move to NetBSD. In the past, I've had the sad
experience of having bit rot affect data on a modern storage medium.
Hence I've since been trying to use filesystems that have content
checksums. On Linux, I've been using BTRFS in part because it seems a
tiny bit leaner than ZFS (sorry if that is incorrect), but even that one
seems kind of overengineered for only having content checksums. I don't
care for snapshots, raid handling, or anything else.
Now I'm looking to move some machines to NetBSD.
Is there a relatively "boring" filesystem choice for NetBSD with content
checksum option that I could enable?
The other reason why ZFS concerns me a bit is that the upstream
implementation seems to have gone deep into the AI slop coding which I
prefer to avoid for personal reasons - on top of quality concerns.
I would also like to use disk encryption:
As a side note, is there some script or terminal UI that installs NetBSD
with disk encryption?
https://www.dwarmstrong.org/netbsd-encrypt-install/ The process
described here seems surprisingly manual.
Sorry if these questions are misinformed, I'm happy to learn!
Regards,
Ellie
