Hello Luis,

Your words suggesting disk malfunctioning aimed me to make a test. I
have copied (using *Debian* GNU/Linux) more than 1.5 TB of all kind of
data during hours, including the .mozilla directory offending
"garbage" to the ext2 partition on the USB hard disk on several
directories (having cleaned the filesystem previously with fsck), I
get  no errors at all. So I can conclude that the drive and the USB
circuitry should be on OK shape (I think).
