Yes, I forgot about the hardware enumeration of devices. I should think
about "occasional mass storage" -> "hot pluggable". In the future, I
will go for USB to IDE as you suggest.

For now, I will use locators in the kernel config.

As I have mentionned, so that others don't fall in the trap: ROOT for
example is there apparently starting with 9.0 (no mention in fstab(5) or
the example on 8.0). I'm still on 8.0 (I never hurry to upgrade...).
