For now I'm using console only. Will try X later with the Matrox G450PCI.
In /etc/ttys it says:

ttyE0 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" wsvt25 off secure
ttyE1 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" wsvt25 off secure
...

Does ttyE0 need to be changed to on?
