Thanks. I got a bit further this time.

When it stops at root: I typed ? as Martin advised and this is what I
got:

Use one of: age0 wd0[a-p] wd1[a-p] wd2[a-p] fd0[a-p] ddb halt reboot

I chose wd0a (which is currently Slackware root) and I got the
following error:

vfs_mountroot: can't open root device
Cannot mount root, error=6

I have tried this with two disks which are both in healthy condition
running Slackware.

Perhaps I should zero out the disk and partition with gparted before
running install? Or do I even have a NetBSD install disk?

I downloaded the ISO from here:

http://nyftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-6/201203270630Z/iso/

Is this an install ISO?
