USB enclosure umass problem

G'day,
I've just replaced a couple of 320GB HDD's in a removable encosure with a
couple of 500GBs to increase backup space, and I see this :

umass0 at uhub4 port 3 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: ViPowER, Inc. ViPowER USB2.0 Storage Device, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus0 at umass0: 2 targets, 1 lun per target
umass0: BBB reset failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, TIMEOUT

Tried it with two new drives. This works fine with the older 320GB HDDs :

umass0 at uhub4 port 3 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: ViPowER, Inc. ViPowER USB2.0 Storage Device, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus0 at umass0: 2 targets, 1 lun per target
sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <ST332062, 0A, 0\0000> disk fixed
sd0: 298 GB, 16383 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 625142448 sectors

I'm also seeing this on a new enclosure, with 80 GB HDD's on a different
server :

umass0 at uhub4 port 5 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: Genesys Logic USB TO IDE, rev 2.00/0.33, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus0 at umass0: 2 targets, 1 lun per target
umass0: BBB reset failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, TIMEOUT

The only difference, apart from the new drives themselves (IDE) is that on
the one that used to work (with the 320's) I set up the drives when it was
running NetBSD 3.1 i386, and it's now running 4.0 i386.

Has anyone seen this? I've sent a PR but am not sure it's a kernel bug in
4.0 i386 or not? I find it hard to believe that I'd have 4 new HDDs all
of which don't work! The only thing I can think of is maybe it's something
to do with IDE master or slave for the controller, would that show this
symptom?
