Well, I have asked him earlier about that PR, and it was exactly that symptoms.

Hm, it seems that I was wrong. He have permissions 755, but it was
corrected one directory above, e.g.
with daemon in /chroots/daemon, he has corrected perms of /chroots.

I don't remember what he was using, but I think it was amd64. I have
chrooted system with init.root on i386 and I don't have problems.
