also happens in NetBSD 4.0

seems to happen after inetd has either been repeatedly reloaded and/or inetd 
has had to suspend a port or two because of rapid respawning.

no core file found.

we notice inetd has gone away, and this is the last message in syslog:

  inetd[25724]: fcntl (F_SETFD, 0): Bad file descriptor

we restart inetd and all is well until the next time.
