Subtle memory issue?

I was debugging a random crash in irssi, which is usually good about not
segfaulting except in very unusual circumstances.

While debugging this, I managed to get:
/usr/src/external/gpl3/gdb/lib/libgdb/../../dist/gdb/utils.c:1079: internal-error: virtual memory exhausted.

(gdb 7.12, before the massive changes by christos).

Did someone/something subtly break memory again?
I have SVS disabled.
