Sounds like SMASH CLP, which is definitely a standard at least regarding
syntax. See http://dmtf.org/standards/smash.

Yep, so far they all deliver a usually pretty broken Java applet, that,
if it works, is ugly and slow and very limited to use.

Saying that, the Fujitsu boxes here have a better one, even with a virtual
keyboard to send arbitrary keypresses. And for people that use Windows
and where putty is considered evil they also have a java applet that
launches a telnet or ssh session to the command line interface.
