FWIW, most Apple systems made recently (almost a decade?) have had
Firewire and OS X has supported debugging over Firewire for quite some
time.  It's the recommended method, in fact, although they also support
kernel debugging over ethernet.  It is pretty cool, as I understand it,
because it gives you access to the target system's RAM through the
Firewire controller and independent of the target systems's CPU.  So
even if the target is stuck in some uninterruptable state, you should
be able to get at least some information out of it.
