There wasn't overwhelming opposition. I barely saw any opposition. I
just re-read the thread, too. I am seeing increasingly loud
argumentation over nothing, though.

I'm especially surprised given how stupid this bikeshed is. I'd be more
inclined to discuss it if there was some actual deep reason to oppose
having one more flag. There are dozens of flags in the .mk files, one
more is hardly even worth noting. I've long wondered at how people make
large and dubious changes to the kernel without a whimper being raised,
but everyone is willing to argue endlessly over whether there is one
more control knob.

If core wants to discuss it with me, I'll talk about it with them and
explain the motivation in even more detail -- if they then feel it is
important they can tell me. Otherwise right now I think this is a
tempest in a teapot and I don't intend to spend more time on it.
