I'm pretty sure the version in pkgsrc is fine (interpret at will) which is why 
he is hesitant.

Just in case you were unaware, the latest pkgsrc version of xentools requires 
_current_ everything. It's incompatible with the release kernels and tends to 
be a common showstopper for people using the latest pkgsrc on a release or 
not compiling their own domu kernels. Current amd64 dom0 requires current 
amd64 domu or i386pae.

That's my understanding anyway.

The only other thing that has prevented me from launching a domu is a sparse 
vnd, typically from a pre-made linux image.

Being an @netbsd.org you prolly know what you are doing though :)
