Re: The first reboot to hard drive after the CD-rom install failed

Hello.

I don't know if it would be helpful, but I've taken some note of how
other distributions have done with installing and booting up on the
iBook G4.

1.) Completely successful without any extra intervention needed: FreeBSD
and Debian 8.  Debian 8 used yaboot.

2.) OpenBSD did install, but the subsequent bootup required the
following command to be entered at the Open Firmware prompt:  boot
hd:,ofwboot /bsd   They did include instructions to do this at the end
of their install.  The following feedback shows up on the Open Firmware
during boot up (after it has been installed):

Warning: sector size mismatch! can't OPEN: /pci@4000000/ata-6@d/@0:2,\\:tbxi
Apple PowerBook6,5 4.8.7f1 BootROM built on 09/23/04 at 16:13:38
Copyright 1994-2004 Apple Computer, Inc.
All Rights Reserved.

At which point, at the Open Firmware prompt, the suggested command is
entered which allows the laptop to boot up with the OpenBSD system.

3.) The Gentoo CD installed (and required no intervention to do so), but
the hard drive would not boot up.

4.) Complete failures to even have the CD/DVD disk be recognized as an
install medium:  Debian 10 for macppc (unofficial release), Void Linux
for macppc, and Adélie Linux, all failed.
