I have it building now. Will try it as soon as I get a chance.
I've finally managed to get a fresh -current built, installed and
The behavior of a GENERIC kernel on my 233MHz MPC750 iMac is
machfb produces an unusable display as noted before and illustrated in
John Klos' photos. atabus* attachment hangs the machine forever.
I posted a few suggestions to debug the machfb problem a few days ago
- - as I said, none of my mach64 shows the problem so I can't debug it.
Same with the IDE controller - I have a bunch of different wdc at obio
and they all work fine. All I can do is suggest to sprinkle printf()s
to find out where exactly the hangup happens.
Booting in userconf mode and disabling machfb allows genfb to handle
the display. Disabling atabus allows the kernel to complete initiali-
zation and the machine will happily go multiuser on NFS.
Reminds me, when I had access to a 1st generation iMac years ago it
would inevitably crash when swapping over nfs ( that machine had only
64MB, building anything from pkgsrc made it swap eventually ) - does
this still happen? I never had a chance to debug this properly and
there's a PR about it.
