start by building a kernel with DIAGNOSTIC...

I see neither USB nor IDE devices attaching. How long did it sit there? If USB is the problem there might be error messages after a few minutes but I'd guess there's something wrong with the IDE driver :/ Any chance to try a -current kernel to see if there's any difference? I have a beige G3 which is very similar ( except that it has an actual SCSI bus, PCI slots and ADB but CPU and chipsets are the same ) and it shows none of these problems.
