Hmm, twiddling pipe shows there are some read access,
then it might indicate:

- bootxx sticks in readsector() (or some other) funcion
- bootxx doesn't load tertiary properply
- bootxx loads tertiary but doesn't jump there
- loaded tertiary has other problems

Could you try this one (just random debug printfs added to bootxx) again?
