i cannot install netbsd

Hello...

i am trying to install netbsd on my amiga 1200.

all works fine until the moment i launched the kernel with loadbsd.

it boots, and when i am prompted for the root device, i follow the install 
manual, 
and get only the folowwing message :

panic : can't find root parttion ( or something similar )

and then it dumps.

i first tried from the gateway 2 cd , and later with the 1.2 distribution.

all seems to be correct, the partition has the correct number ( according to 
the manual )
i don't now how to proceed ....
