I'm also seeing firefox-49 crash a few times per day (which is better than firefox-47 or -48 managed, -46 was to my recollection rock solid).

Does anyone have a sense of where the instability is coming from and if it will continue? I'm a fan of Mozilla in various forms but my confidence is a little shaky at this point that they care enough about !Linux operating systems that I wouldn't be better served just dropping Firefox like a bad habit and forgetting about it's existence. It's the whole "if they won't help or listen when we have stability problems, why should we keep pimping their wares?" Is it that, or is the situation significantly different or more complex?

Ie.. is this a temporary hard-to-find bug, or a trend based on development choices ?

dialog is definitely prettier :) I think I'll be sticking with it. Diff attached - you'll want "PKG_OPTIONS.firefox=gtk3"

Did you happen to notice the difference in RAM usage or any speed difference? I'm skeptical that a toolkit upgrade will do anything beyond bloat, since that's the norm. I duly note your impression of the aesthetics, though.

I'm also running with official-mozilla-branding and JPEG_DEFAULT=libjpeg-turbo

Ah, that's a nice feature. I've hit a few sites that have converted to newer image formats and see some broken image icons lately. I get the feeling we'll see more of that to come.
