Problems with gconf/dbus/gnucash
I have to admit that I have no idea about gconf or dbus. The only thing
I know is that dbus is used by gconf, which is used by gnucash ...
Now, I've got a little group of five amd64 machines, all running the
same NetBSD 6.99.23 kernel and userland, and all running the same set of
300+ packages, all of which were just rebuilt and reinstalled from a
very recent pkgsrc.
On three of these machines, gnucash runs properly, and loads my existing
data file without any problem. On the other two machines, I get two
message boxes during startup, (the active) one saying that it "Cannot
find default values". If I select the Setup button in this box, it
tries to walk me through editting my ~/.gconf.path file, which already
contains the right data!
If I instead select the Skip button, I get a series of error messages
similar to the following (reformatted, to insert line breaks)
Failed to load key /apps/gnucash/general/show_splash_screen:
Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a
missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See
http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1:
Failed to get connection to session: Could not connect: No such
file or directory)
I've restarted dbus, and I've compared all the dbug system files with
those on the working machines, and found no differences. Yet these
messages persist, and I am at a loss to figure out how to proceed.
(Yes, I did visit the URL listed in the error message, but it wasn't
terribly helpful.)
