math/pari vs MesaLib (2010Q3)

Why does math/pari apparently want MesaLib, and what does that have to
do with a math package??? It doesn't compile as-is since I don't have
it installed and it isn't properly declared as a dependency.

This is what happended when I wanted to build www/bins, after lots of
"=> No binary package found for FOO; installing from source." :

===> wrapper-message [pari-2.3.5nb6 p5-Math-Pari-2.010806.04nb2
p5-Crypt-Primes-0.50nb4 p5-Crypt-RSA-1.99nb1 p5-Crypt-OpenPGP-1.04nb1
p5-Module-Signature-0.66 p5-PAR-Dist-0.47nb1 p5-Module-Install-1.00nb1
p5-Image-Info-1.30nb1 bins-1.1.29nb2] ===> Creating toolchain wrappers for
ERROR: MesaLib>=3.4.2 is not installed; can't buildlink files.
*** Error code 1

make: stopped in /usr/pkgsrc/math/pari
*** Error code 1

Why??? does a simple math package depends on a graphics behemoth?
And if there is a good reason for the first issue, why isn't it
properly recorded as a dependency so that it gets installed
