very very slow pkg_add (stupidly?)

Hello,

while updating to 2010Q2 I tried to speed up the process a bit by
intalling some apps (like openoffice3, vlc ...) via binary pkgs by
pkg_add from an ftp mirror.

I have always experienced too long delays (perhaps from dependency
checks) for some packages so that building from src even with all the
dependencies was faster.

Now I have checked the deps "manually" from pkgsrc.se and by prepending
them to the list of desired packages to pkg_add I got much shorter
installation time.

Could anyone tell me - is it a bug or just what to do so that pkg_add
does its job faster?
