OK, it was Yorick's patches in http://mail-index.netbsd.org/pkgsrc-users/2009/01/30/msg009203.html that I was remembering. I can confirm that they fix the Negotiate problem as well as printing so if others are too busy I'm happy to commit. (I have been too busy to deal with this the last 1.5 weeks.) So you applied the SHA1_Update rename patch, and things work? Did you adjust the cups patch so that it fixes the extra & but leaves in the random init call? Sure, please commit whichever of the steps you've checked.
