Why not doing the same thing as mail/postfix ?
pkg_info says :
<...> adding the following lines to /etc/rc.conf.d/postfix:
  required_files='/usr/pkg/etc/postfix/main.cf'
  start_cmd='/usr/pkg/sbin/postfix start'
<...>
