I have two "sibling" VM's on the same host ("henry", Alpine Linux), one
is "eeyore" (OpenBSD) and another is "mzulft" (NetBSD). "Sibling" means
I can test over the same network distance as they are next to each
other.

On NetBSD:

mzulft% iperf3 -c henry -t 5
Connecting to host henry, port 5201

To be honest, the networking with VMs is far beyond me, and I'm sure
there are hundreds of things to tweak, but with a default setup, NetBSD
is more than 400 Mbit/s slower than OpenBSD here.

I also have a bare metal install of NetBSD on the host "bthalft":

bthalft% iperf3 -c henry -t 5
Connecting to host henry, port 5201
[ 7] local 100.125.62.124 port 65405 connected to 100.108.126.65 port

[ 7] 1.00-2.01 sec 29.9 MBytes 248 Mbits/sec 0 48.0 KBytes
[ 7] 2.01-3.01 sec 31.1 MBytes 261 Mbits/sec 0 81.5 KBytes
[ 7] 3.01-4.01 sec 28.6 MBytes 240 Mbits/sec 0 43.2 KBytes

[ 7] 0.00-5.01 sec 148 MBytes 247 Mbits/sec

iperf Done.

I can compare this with its "sibling" macOS system ("laban", a Mac Mini,
sitting next to "bthalft" on my desk):

laban% iperf3-darwin -c henry -t 5

The difference is not that big, but NetBSD still clocks in at 100+ Mbit/s
slower than macOS.

All NetBSD systems tested has the fix to if_tun.c applied (thanks for
that!). But, as I said, I'm not personally greatly troubled by this
slight slowness. I'm just happy things work.

Regards,
Andreas
