BIND DNS from base vs. pkg
I'm planning to stand up another NetBSD server for DNS and other network
services (NTP, dhcp, tftp, etc.) in the lab, so I thought I'd take a
look at the state of things; this is amd64 running fairly recent 11.0
and packages:
$ /usr/sbin/named -v
BIND 9.20.24 (Stable Release) <id:e5d43f1>
$ pkgin search bind-9
bind-9.18.50nb2 Berkeley Internet Name Daemon implementation of DNS, version 9.18
I thought I saw a mailing list note about someone putting up a more
recent or even newer-than-base package, but could be misremembering.
Can anyone speak to NetBSD plans wrt BIND packages vs. base, if any?
While it's not a big problem to switch BIND instance, given the status
quo I'm inclined to deploy with the base BIND and carry on as I've done
in the past.
Thanks,
sr.
