Desktop environments are a complicated subject.  NetBSD has X11 in the
base system, with twm and ctwn.  In pkgsrc, which you are using, there
are a large number, and you can pick whatever you want.  (In GNU/Linux
distributions, for reasons I don't understand, there is a strong "foo
distribution comes with bar desktop" and this is considered to be a big
deal, even though it seems one can just install whichever desktop one
wants.)

I am guessing you want emacs with x11 support, vs the emacs-nox11
package that runs in a terminal.   The question would be what kind of
window manager and desktop you want to run, and my guess is that if you
had that installed, and it didn't hve dbus yet, and you installed emacs
and got dbus, that's probably fine.

I use xfce as something that is enough to let me have virtual desktops
and a dock for a few applets (e.g. nextcloud sync), and that's about it.
If you're running modern gnome, it's probably different.

My advice would be don't worry, and if you have trouble and post about
it, say what desktop you are using, and things that you have chosen that
others might not guess.  That's easier said than done of course.
